What's more important - Experience or Qualifications?
Plus a podcast on Michael Jackson and a novel on family relationships
Hello,
I was in a job a few years ago where I was unhappy so I quit without having another job lined up. During the time I was unemployed, I started thinking about what I was interested in so I completed a course in digital marketing which I enjoyed but I still didn’t know what I wanted to do.
I worked in a couple of jobs after the course to make some money before landing a marketing-adjacent role in higher education. While interviewing for roles, I felt like I spoke more about my experience and often wondered why I bothered with studying for the course and if it was worth it.
In the latest episode of Life in Brown, I spoke with my friend, Ibukun who also works in marketing but in the travel industry about her journey into this field and she shared some job application tips. (Listening time, 21:20)
What I’ve been reading and listening to lately
I recently picked up Miss Pearly’s Girls by Reshonda Tate Billingsley at my local library. It’s a story about four sisters who don’t get along and what happens when their mother falls ill and brings them together.
Lately, I’ve been drawn to stories about family relationships and I think that’s why I’ve been listening to Think Twice: Michael Jackson. The podcast explores who Michael Jackson was before he became an international superstar, his relationship with his family and why he’s still influential despite the sex scandals he was involved in.
Thank you for reading. Have you enjoyed reading, watching or listening to anything interesting lately? I would love to hear about it!
Take care,
