Wedding guest costs, do you need to like your job and some weekend recommendations
Would you lose weight if you were a bridesmaid and the bride told you that you had to do so for her wedding? This and the costs of being a bridesmaid were covered in a novel I recently read called For the Love of Friends by Sara Confino-Goodman. The main character is a bridesmaid in 5 weddings over 6 weeks and one of the weddings required her to spend $3000 on a bachelorette weekend. Reading this made me think about how do you handle things with friends when you can’t afford the costs of being part of their wedding. Do you let them know or drop out if they say the costs can’t be adjusted?
What’s new on the podcast…
My brother, Korede joins me on this week’s episode where we talk about whether it’s necessary to like your day job and how his experience doing a placement year at one of the big four has shaped what he looks for when applying for jobs. (Listening time, 16:19)
What I’ve enjoyed watching…
The Eyes of Tammy Faye on Disney+. It’s a film based on the true story of a televangelist couple - Jim and Tammy Faye Baker. I first came across their story on the podcast - Spectacular Failures where Jim and Tammy Faye planned to create a Christian theme park and how their plan went horribly wrong. The film explores more of their rise and fall and particularly Tammy Faye’s story.
What I’ve enjoyed listening to…
It isn’t often that my husband, Ayo and I listen to something in the car and when we get home, he goes let’s keep listening to this. This happened when we were listening to an episode of Bodies where a lady shares how she got an STI in the 80s and how that shaped the decisions she made after finding out she had an infection.
I don’t watch tennis but I enjoyed this episode from They Did That on Tunisian tennis player - Ons Jabeur. It’s a story about a tennis player who’s the first Arab woman to reach the last four of the US Open. She’s from a country where she doesn’t have the same resources as tennis players from Europe and the US so it explores how she was able to reach these heights with limited resources.
