Happy New Year! I hope your year has started well.
On New Year’s Day, I was sitting in my living room watching Emily in Paris when my husband asked what goals I was trying to reach this year. I said I didn’t have any because I hadn’t written them down so they didn’t seem concrete enough to share. I decided to make them clearer and to write them down and I’m sharing them with you to make me accountable.
I plan to write this newsletter and publish episodes on my podcast twice a month. During my time off over Christmas, I listened to an audiobook by Kristen Meinzer called, So You Want to Start a Podcast and it helped me narrow down my vision for my podcast so I decided the focus will be on interviewing mainly millennials of African heritage about our careers so we can learn tips to thrive in our personal and professional lives.
In line with that, the first episode of the year is with my cousin - Philip Onotu about choosing to do an MBA at MIT and whether it was worth the investment. His story about he funded the degree was truly a story of persistence. As someone who gives up on things after two seconds, I learnt a lot from speaking to him and I think you would even if you’re not planning to study for an MBA. Listen here on your favourite podcast app or on Spotify below.
I’ve also decided that I will be releasing episodes in seasons on the podcast. Each season will have about 8 episodes and then have a break before the next season. That’s the plan and I hope to keep to that. If you have suggestions on guests or topics that you would like to see, please let me know in the comments or you can message me on Instagram @lifeinbrown_
🎙What I’ve Listened to Lately
I enjoyed this episode from Life Kit on starting an exercise routine that works for you. Most new year goals are often around losing weight, exercising and eating healthier. I must confess that’s what I think about too. This episode helped me looked at how it’s better to focus on exercising for reasons like increasing our energy levels than exercising to lose weight. This is because we often give up on exercising when we don’t lose weight as quickly as we would like when exercising.
I also liked this episode from Food, We Need To Talk about the science of making new year resolutions and what we can do so we are more likely to stick to our resolutions.
That’s all from me. I wish you a beautiful and amazing year.
Love,
