January often seems like the longest month but I hope yours is going well.
I was on Instagram a couple of weeks ago when I saw a post where someone was talking about how makeup artists seem to overcharge wedding clients. The issue was around why the price of getting your makeup done in a studio was significantly different from bridal makeup costs. I had planned to speak to a wedding planner about building a business in the industry and decided to talk to her about these comments about wedding costs too. Hannah Obalade who runs Rose Daniel Events joined me to talk about growing her business and how she views the cost of wedding services. Listen here (Listening time, 27:57)
Do you think wedding services are overpriced? If you’ve had to source vendors for your wedding, how did you manage the costs?
In the last month, I also tried some video content and I shared all about my laser eye surgery experience. YouTube is a little bit tricky for me but I thought I would experiment with creating some video content there this year.
What I’ve Enjoyed Lately
Since watching Pressure Cooker on Netflix which is a cooking competition where the chefs live together, I’ve been obsessed with watching food content on YouTube from Bon Appetit, NYT Cooking and Food52. Some of my favourites are from Bon Appetit when they go into different food businesses and show what it takes to run them. Pressure Cooker and the food videos I’ve watched have also inspired me to try new recipes. I tried a different pancake recipe today but I think I’m going to stick to the one I always use.
With podcasts, I enjoyed listening to this episode from The Happiness Lab on letting children try and fail. As a parent to a toddler, I sometimes want to do everything for my child because it’s quicker to get things done but I’ve learnt that letting her do little things would give me more time to do things that make me a happier parent.
Let me know what you’ve enjoyed watching, reading or listening to in the comments.
Love,
